BEHIND THE CHICKPEAS
Hi, I'm Lindsay. I'm a food lover and traveller based in Toronto on the traditional territory of the Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee Wendat and Mississaugas of the Credit.
In a previous life, I lived in Vietnam and Brazil and travelled extensively throughout Southeast and East Asia, Western Europe and South America. Missing the intersections of food and travel, and inspired by folks in Toronto who are eating their way across the city one country at a time, I decided to take on a plant-based version.

Unlike me, my partner eats everything, so this blog will feature options for vegans and omnivores alike. Where I can't find a restaurant, don't be surprised when I start cooking up national dishes in my home kitchen.
Why the chickpeas?
Growing up, chickpeas were a staple in my home. From hummus and falafel to the simple salad my parents made with ham and provolone, I ate chickpeas... a lot. However, it was only when I started looking at dishes from across the world that I realized the ubiquity of chickpeas. This legume has been around for 7,500 years and is prominently featured in Middle Eastern, South Asian, Mediterranean, and Caribbean cuisine. As a result, it seemed like the perfect launching point to explore cuisines from around the world.
